Tips for finding reliable information:
Information is moving fast and it can be hard to decipher between truth or clickbait. Here are some tips to help you.
- Use trustworthy websites such as .gov (government), .edu (educational institutions), .org (organization).
- Peer-reviewed articles and books, meaning they have been reviewed by experts in field.
- Reputable magazines (National Geographic, Time, Science News) and newspapers (The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Associated Press) that are known for factchecking.
- Sounds made up? Check a fact checking website like Snopes or Factcheck.
- Check that the article you are reading has an author listed and a date as to when it was published, details matter.
- Lastly, always check with a second source. If it was published once, a major second outlet should be reporting on the same headline.
